Job Description
Become a Librarian in Reference Services department at Denver Public Library’s Central branch. The successful candidate will demonstrate passion and innovation in providing exemplary customer service to the public. This is an outstanding opportunity to work alongside and learn from a team of highly experienced colleagues. Creates positive experiences for library customers by performing professional library work including reference service, reader and media advisory and collection maintenance. Staffs a busy reference desk, serving a diverse clientele of all ages. Promotes community outreach and programming. Communicates effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers and administration.
Additional Info & Requirements
Experience in providing high volume, innovative library service preferred. Spanish language fluency is a plus. Knowledge of providing library services to customers with different levels of literacy or technology abilities. Knowledge of print and electronic reference tools and techniques. Skill in interpreting, communicating and presenting information, both orally and in writing. Skill in the operation of a computer. Ability to self-motivate in constantly learning and sharing about new reference resources. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact. Ability to provide reference service to people from all backgrounds and age groups in a variety of formats (in-house, telephone, online chat, and e-mail). Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to perform teen and adult community outreach and programming. A background check must be passed after the offer to hire has been made.
