Job Description
Responsible for all aspects of the library system: planning, management, and evaluation of staff, services and resources.
Serves as the library board’s chief executive officer in administering the budget, staff, facilities and services of the library system. Requires the highest degree of discretion and integrity. Contacts with the public and staff are varied and continual; requires the highest degree of tact, diplomacy and good judgment.
Serves as chief administrative officer of the system.
- Ensures that the library system complies with all applicable federal, state and local laws.
- Implements and administers the policies and decisions of the board.
-Attends all board meetings
-Keeps the board informed of library system activities, accomplishments and needs.
-Keeps the board informed of statewide and national library issues and trends and their relationships to, or impact upon, the Sweetwater County Library System.
-Instructs new members of the library board in public library philosophy.
-Provides the board with monthly detailed financial reports.
-Makes hiring recommendations to the library board.
-Recommends policies or policy amendments to the library board.
- Prepares the annual budget in excess of $3.5 million with considerations for 9 branches of varying sizes in diverse or rural communities along with a community fine arts center; considers goals, fluctuating millage, and emerging developments in that preparation.
- Expends the budget as directed by the board.
- Oversees all aspects of library operation utilizing department heads and staff, contractors and local government agencies.
- Supervises and evaluates department heads.
- Interviews department head applicants.
-Facilitates system-wide planning, coordination and communication.
- Serves as a library representative for community functions and media presentations.
- Participates in professional library organizations.
- Supports the Library Foundation in attracting donations to meet the Wyoming Legislature’s Endowment Challenge Program for sustainability.
- Keeps abreast of professional library trends and issues.
- Participates in, and leads when appropriate, statewide library initiatives which benefit Sweetwater County, the statewide library community and Wyoming residents.
- Maintains communications with county commissioners and local officials on library goals, developments and initiatives.
- Performs other duties as necessary, or assigned, or self-determined to benefit the system.
