Job Description
* Be an instructional leader by staying current with and applying principles and practices of adult learning and guiding others in the State Library (and CDE) and library community on research-based instructional design. * Coordinate statewide professional development of library staff including prioritizing continuing education, establishing competencies and standards, hiring subject specialists, providing library staff training both in-person and online. * Develop, maintain, and expand online learning resources for library staff professional development in areas of current need and in response to library trends and innovations. * Design and conduct assessment and evaluation for continuing education to public, school, academic, and state corrections libraries. * Partner with outside agencies on professional development opportunities for libraries and their agencies. * Coordinate and participate in state, regional, and national initiatives related to library staff training, formal education, and professional development. * Provide consultation and training to State Library staff and others on best practices for user experience design, instructional design, and presentation tools including video and audio production, web synchronous and asynchronous training. * Evaluate existing and emerging technologies that could be used by State Library, CLiC, and other library staff to improve training and learning in libraries.
Additional Info & Requirements
Required: • Two (2) years of experience developing and delivering online and face-to-face instruction and training. • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory as it applies to instructional design. • Demonstrated ability to create innovative training in multiple formats as demonstrated by an online portfolio submitted with application material. • Dedication to excellent customer service. • Strong project management skills. • Experience developing multimedia training. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability and willingness to travel in-state (mostly day trips, occasionally overnight). • Ability to pass NCIC/CCIC background check for access to state institutional libraries. • The ability to pass a background check, which includes a motor vehicle records search. Preferred: • Experience providing quality training for library staff in all areas of library service including digital literacy. • Experience developing multimedia training modules. • Experience developing competencies and evaluation methods for the competencies. • Experience coordinating continuing education initiatives in conjunction with external partners. • Experience with design of websites including content organization based on usability best practices. • Able to prioritize independently and identify when to seek input in setting priorities. • Professional library experience, including technology use, in a school, public, academic, and/or state institutional library.
