Job Description
The Digital Collections and Government Documents Librarian (Librarian) will have an important role in a team-oriented environment to develop and manage the Library's digital and government documents collections under the direction of the Director of Forsyth Library.
The Librarian will work with faculty and librarians in the identification of print materials to be transferred to digital media; coordinate workflow for digitizing and cataloging digital collections; catalog and assign metadata to digital materials; identify external funding sources and grant writing; apply current digital library community benchmarks, best practices, and standards where appropriate; consult with campus legal office on copyright, licensing and rights management issues related to digital collections; provide copyright, intellectual property and rights management consultation for faculty; consult with faculty and other producers of digital media for the creation of a digital libraries and digital repositories; and identify digital information trends/planning for the future.
The Librarian will participate fully in the administration of government documents and promote use of the collection. The Librarian will coordinate the processing of government documents, the monthly processing of Marcive files, and will identify and resolve complex processing, claiming and cataloging problems. In addition, the Librarian will serve as the government documents bibliographer and Library Liaison to one or more academic departments.
The Librarian will demonstrate knowledge of the Federal Depository Library Program guidelines and practices. The Librarian will remain current on policies and issues affecting the Depository, libraries, GPO, and the LPS Program and prepare reports required by the Federal Depository Library Program. The Librarian will coordinate the government documents section by maintaining online links to government resources, provide for catalog access, classify state, foreign and international documents, and manage and publicize government documents that support the FHSU curriculum.
The Librarian will support the teaching, learning and research needs of Fort Hays State University faculty and students. In addition, the Librarian will act as a bridge between library and technical staff and reach out to the university, local, and regional communities. The Librarian will also provide reference and instruction in the use of government documents and digital collections to both internal and external users. This person will also have assigned night and weekend responsibilities.
