Job Description
Reference Services Manager – position #4810 The New Mexico State Library (NMSL) seeks a library manager (Line Manager – II) who is looking for a leadership role in public services at this important cultural and informational institution. As part of the Public Services Bureau, this position is responsible for the reference services provided by the New Mexico State Library, which include circulation, resource sharing, the Southwest Room, the Foundation Center collection, the library science collection, the serials collection, the reference collection and the databases. This position coordinates the staff of the Public Service Bureau to provide excellent reference and research assistance to the public, state agencies, and other libraries. Duties include scheduling reference desk staff; directly providing advanced or expert level reference services to library customers; collection development; maintaining the public service portions of the Web site; promoting services; and overseeing the circulation and resource sharing functions. Other responsibilities include public presentations, outreach to the library community, and collaboration with other State Library departments and state agencies to deliver quality library service throughout the state. The person in this position must demonstrate initiative and a strong customer service commitment. The person is this position provides leadership for and coordination of all aspects of reference service; conducts complex research in order to respond to information requests; and promote public services and collections. The person in this position supervises one or more library professionals and one or more technical staff. The position requires a Master’s Degree from an ALA-accredited program and at least four years post-degree experience providing library public services, including two years supervisory experience.
