Job Description
Seeking a forward thinking and dynamic librarian for the youth services department of the Farmers Branch Manske Library. This position is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children and has a passion for promoting youth literacy.
Under the direct supervision of the Youth Services Supervisor, the Youth Services Librarian will be responsible for providing reference and advisory services to children and their parents, assisting in selecting children’s books and materials, and creating public relations materials to promote Youth Services’ programming and events. A major part of this job will be developing and conducting original, vibrant programming for children that encourages reading, viewing and listening skills, and promotes the use of library facilities and materials.
The position’s primary responsibilities are to:
Develop and conduct programs for children that promote literacy and encourage reading for enrichment and pleasure.
Develop and conduct children’s storytimes including toddler, baby bounce preschool, and family storytimes.
Maintain a broad knowledge of children’s books and other media.
Create displays and public relations materials to promote Youth Services’ programming.
Provide reference and advisory service to patrons in the area of children’s and young adult literature.
Supervise youth volunteers.
Perform outreach activities to local community agencies and organizations.
Work as liaison to local schools, maintaining healthy relationships with school administrators, teachers and librarians.
Perform other duties as assigned.
