Assistant Professor - Instruction Librarian
The Kraemer Family Library at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, and collaborative instruction librarian to help support and strengthen the library instruction program at UCCS through the application of information literacy standards, instructional technologies and pedagogies, and assessment techniques. The Instruction Librarian is part of a team that provides a full range of information support to the UCCS community. Responsibilities include participation in reference, instruction, collection development, liaison activities, as well as the research/publication and service requirements for tenure and promotion at the University. This is a tenure-track academic appointment starting at the rank of assistant professor.
This is an entry level position, and we welcome applications from candidates who have recently received or will receive an ALA accredited MLS by June 2014.
This position reports to the Director of Instructional Services and has the following responsibilities.
• Assist with providing face-to-face instruction for the UCCS Writing Program and Gateway courses.
• Serve as the liaison to the Gateway (freshman seminar) Program, scheduling instruction and developing innovative models for the delivery of basic information literacy instruction.
• Develop online learning materials, i.e. Libguides, videos, tutorials.
• Serve as a liaison to academic divisions or departments, providing collection development, library instruction, and research assistance.
• Provide reference service including some nights and weekends.
• Participate in the development of policies, procedures and goals of the instruction program.
• Serve on appointed library, campus, and university committees.
• Develop professionally as a member of the academic community through scholarly activities (research, publishing, and conference presentations), professional service, conference attendance, and continuing education.
Minimum Qualifications
• ALA accredited MLS/MLIS/MIS by June 2014.
• Experience or coursework in reference.
• Experience or coursework in bibliographic instruction or other teaching experience.
• Commitment to the teaching/librarianship, research, and service requirements of a tenure-track position.
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a constantly changing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
• Commitment to excellent customer service.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
Desired qualifications
• Experience/coursework with assessment of information literacy learning outcomes.
• Experience with Blackboard course management system.
• Experience with graphic design software, video creation and other multimedia tools.
• Desire to learn and apply emerging technologies in the library environment.
Salary range $43,000-$46,500
Additional Info & Requirements
Appointment and Salary: The successful candidate for this position will be appointed as a full-time (12 month) tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor. Starting salary range is $43,000 - $46,500, depending upon qualifications. Benefits include 15 days of sick leave, 22 days of vacation, 10 paid holidays per year, University group health care plan, group life insurance, and TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity.
The Community
The Colorado Springs campus of the University of Colorado was established in 1965. The student population is approximately 7650. Most students are commuters, but campus housing is available for about 900 students. Doctoral degrees are offered in engineering, geropsychology, educational leadership and nursing practice. The campus also has graduate programs in business, public administration, and a variety of arts and science areas.
Colorado Springs, located at the foot of Pikes Peak, has a population of approximately 500,000, with tourism, high technology, manufacturing, sports and the military ranking as the key industries within the community. Located 70 miles south of Denver, Colorado Springs offers a wide variety of leisure and educational activities including sports, parks, symphony, local theater groups, museums and several institutions of higher education.
