Being a Public Services Manager at JCPL means being a leader – a forward thinker who is passionate about providing public library service in our community. It also means being up-to-date on current trends in the profession and being an advocate for libraries and for a new kind of patron experience. Under the direction of the Director of Public Services, this Public Services Manager at JCPL will not only manage the community-centered Wheat Ridge Library but will also manage system-wide Collection Services, including a $3.4 million budget. This Manager will be a leader in achieving Library objectives at Wheat Ridge Library and for creating a high-demand popular materials collection by planning, implementing, and leveraging system resources to their fullest potential. A Public Services Manager at JCPL has broad discretion to hire, assign, train, manage and supervise staff including coaching to best practices; is accountable for budget planning and expenditures and routinely makes decisions on policy enforcement.
Essential duties:
- Prepares and manages a $3.4 million collection budget for JCPL as well as the budget for the Wheat Ridge library
- Recruits, assesses, hires, trains, supervises and evaluates staff in the Wheat Ridge Library and in Collection Services
- Designs and implements new efficiencies and experiments with new ways to accomplish work in public libraries, particularly in the areas of a high demand popular materials collection, collection services, technical services, acquisitions, cataloging, processing and receiving
- Manages the quality and quantity of our Collection, and related collection services, technical services, acquisitions, cataloging, processing and receiving; monitors trends; resolves problems; works with outsourcing vendors
- Uses established industry benchmarks to determine gaps in service provision and quality at the Wheat Ridge Library and in Collection Services, technical services, acquisitions, cataloging, processing and receiving.
- Communicates expectations to staff and colleagues about library service at the Wheat Ridge Library and trends in areas of Collection Services, technical services, acquisitions, cataloging, processing and receiving
- Develops metrics, performance measurement and goal setting at the Wheat Ridge Library and in Collection Services, technical services, acquisitions, cataloging, processing and receiving
- Conducts ongoing statistical analysis of Library collection content, circulation, reserves, etc. and prepares reports for administration and Public Services staff. •Serves as a member of the Public Services Management Team to develop overall strategy, tactical objectives, and short and long-term planning for deployment of resources.
- Manages work groups, monitors assignments and their completion and works with multiple levels of staff, assuring alignment with strategic plan.
- Works in direct patron contact 4-8 hours per month.
- Spokesperson responsible for delivery of Library’s message to internal and external customers.
- Demonstrates advanced skill in using computers and electronic resources.
- Resolves customer service issues, including dealing with law enforcement and first responders
