Job Description

Being a Public Services Manager at JCPL means being a  leader - a forward thinker who is passionate about providing exemplary public library service in our community. It also means being up-to-date on current trends in the profession and being a passionate advocate for libraries and and for a new kind of patron experience.

 Under the direction of the Director of Public Services. a Public Services Manager  at JCPL will not only manage the Arvada Library but will also manage  system-wide  services for Programming and Community Parternship and our Patron Education departments. This manager will be a leader in achieving Library objectives by planning, implementing  and leveraging system resources to their fullest potential. The Manager has broad discretion to hire, assign, train, manage and supervise staff including coaching and best practices; is accountable for budget expenditures in their area of responsibility; makes decisions on policy enforcement.


Staff in this postion are benefit-eligible, full time employees. Hours may include weekends. Staff in this position must comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119 and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Associations; as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) governing public access to space and technology.

Work in direct patron contact 4-8 hours per month. · Recruits, assess, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff in the Arvada Library and Programming, Community Partnerships and Patron Education. · Designs and implements new efficiencies and experiments with new ways to accomplish work in public libraries, particularly in the areas of Programming, Community Partnerships and Patron Education. · Manages the quality and quantity of Programming, Community Partnerships and Patron Education; monitors trends; resolves problems; works with outsourcing vendors. · Develops metrics, performance measurements and goal setting at the Arvada Library and in Programming, Community Partnerships, and Patron Education. · Serves as a member of the Public Services Management Team to develop overall strategy, tactical objectives, and short and long-term planning for deployment of resources. · Creates a flexible environment for implementing new library services and trends. Leads tactical plan initiatives through project management. · Spokesperson responsible for delivery of Library’s message to internal and external customers. · Directs work groups, monitors assignments and their completion and works with multiple levels of staff, assuring alignment with strategic plan. · Communicates expectations to staff and colleagues about library service at the Arvada Library and trends in area of Programming, Community Partnerships and Patron Education.  · Demonstrates advanced skill in using computers and electronic resources. · Communicate expectations and collaborate with others in cross-functional teams to accomplish goals and objectives. · Resolve customer service issues, including dealing with law enforcement and first responders. · Uses established industry benchmarks to determine gaps in service provision and quality at the Arvada Library and in Programming, Community Partnerships, and Patron Education.
