Job Description
1. Works approximately 9 hours per week on the Information, Reference, and Telephone Reference desks providing patron assistance in person and over the telephone. Searches a limited number of reference sources in response to user inquiries. Provides directional assistance and information about the library, its services, and procedures. Maintains confidentiality in all patron interactions.
2. Under the direction of the Teen Librarian, performs a variety of Teen service and support activities: maintains the public Teen area, assists in collection development tasks for teen periodicals, etc. Helps the Teen Librarian in planning, organizing, and implementing programs, services, and publicity to meet teenagers' needs including the summer reading program.
3. Assists patrons in locating library materials and offers instruction to patrons in the use of specific library resources and tools.
4. Provides instruction and access to library holdings in the on-line Public Access Catalog (PAC), PPLD's community information databases, and the Internet. Helps patrons in the use of the library's machines and equipment, including personal computers and software.
5. Refers patrons to the reference staff and to outside sources and collections when appropriate.
6. Promotes library services through instructional tours, demonstrations, talks, and displays.
7. Provides back-up and assistance in Adult Services division tasks and functional areas as needed.
8. Assists reference librarians with a wide variety of ongoing and special projects.
9. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Additional Info & Requirements
Incumbent will work at the new Teen Center located in the East Library. Grand opening is anticipated in July 2007.Prefer 2+ years of library OR other public service work experience. Prefer experience working with teenagers. Bilingual ability is a plus, but not required.

1. Requires a B.A. or B.S. degree (preferably from a 4-year liberal arts college/university).
