Job Description

Library Associate
Pay Grade:  31
Compensation/Benefits: $15.22 - $20.59 /hr including part-time benefits
FLSA Classification:   Non-exempt
Hours: Part-time (24-32 hrs/wk), some days, evenings and weekends
Location:  Riverside Library, Evans, CO
Supervisor:  Patron Services Supervisor
Supervises:  None

Role: 
 
Answers patron requests for information and assistance, assists patrons with self-check and library technology, and assists with programs.
 
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
 
35% - PATRON ASSISTANCE – Assists patrons in the use of library materials and technology by guiding them in searching the catalog and stacks, accessing databases, and navigating the Internet in order to locate resources in the collection and online; Assists users with selecting materials.  E
 
15% - TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTION – Applies digital technology skills by answering questions in order to assist patrons in using library technology; Fosters a nonjudgmental, supportive environment for a diverse population of technology users by using patience and effective communication to assure they receive a positive learning experience; Identifies opportunities to offer formal training in the library and advises patrons on availability of classroom and individual technology instruction.  E
 
15% - PROGRAMMING & OUTREACH – Implements informative and entertaining programs and outreach events such as school visits and computer classes for patrons, Assists in developing programs by identifying and accessing audiences, recruiting attendees, accessing resources in the collection and the community and coordinating such programs and outreach events in order to promote use of library resources and represent the library district to the community. Creates booklists, displays, bulletin boards, electronic documents and other special tools to increase access to library resources and promote their use.  E
 
20% - CIRCULATION – Checks out and renews materials; Assists patrons with self-checkout and checking in materials; issues and updates library cards; and follows procedures and collects money for fines and over-dues; processes holds; checks in materials and sorts and routes the materials to their proper location in order to assist patrons with borrowing of materials.  E
 
10% - COLLECTION MAINTENANCE – Assists Librarians with weeding by pulling materials from shelves based upon a weeding list; informs Librarians about gaps in collection in order to maintain an appealing, current, and useful collection. Maintains periodicals.  E
 
5% - OTHER DUTIES – Assists with providing website content, shelves library materials by loading carts with returned materials in order to return materials to library shelves, and assists Supervisor in order to ensure the smooth operation of the department.  N

Education:
 
Bachelor’s Degree
 
Experience: 
 
One year of related experience
Skill in Windows, MS Office Suite
Able to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently (preferred)
 
Or any combination of education and experience which provides the success factors.
