Job Description

Background Information:

Become a Senior Librarian in the Central Library’s busy Books & Borrowing Department and work collaboratively with staff to connect our customers with information, ideas and experiences to provide enjoyment, enrich lives and strengthen our community. Services will support the Library’s strategic initiatives around lifelong learning, economic prosperity, reading and engaging in experiences that make Denver a better place to live. 

What You’ll Do:

Create lifelong library customers by implementing and managing library services designed to meet the needs of our diverse community.  Supervise and lead a dynamic team in performing professional library work, including roving reference and whole advisory services. Coordinate with the Books & Borrowing supervision team, Collection Maintenance Team and other departments to maintain and facilitate access to nonfiction, fiction and international language adult and young adult print collections. Actively market the collection through displays, blogs, and other channels. Serve a diverse clientele of all ages. Provide outreach to adults in the community through various approved opportunities, which may include work with Mobile Services. Communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers, and supervisors.   

You Have:

Knowledge of public library information management. Knowledge of library services and popular materials for all ages.  Knowledge of current trends in library programming.  Skill in bringing imaginative programs to the public.  Skill in providing whole advisory service.  Skill in merchandizing library materials. Ability to provide strong, compassionate leadership.  Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups.  Ability to select, train, motivate and supervise professional and clerical staff.  Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.  Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships.  Ability to model positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community.  Ability to multi-task and prioritize.  Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility.  Ability to use extensive technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software.  Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made. 

Two years of post-MLS professional-level work in a library. 

A Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.

Spanish language fluency (preferred, not required).

We Provide:

$22.41 - $29.15 per hour starting salary range; $22.41 - $35.87 per hour full salary range.  Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the branch and will include evening and weekend hours.
