Job Description
Role:
Manages the operations of a full service library.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
30% - PUBLIC SERVICE MANAGEMENT – Sets standards for the operation of the branch, develops concepts, practices, techniques and innovations to improve the quality of service, challenges operating processes for greater efficiency and effectiveness, and facilitates problem solving; managers and coordinates a functional area of public services in order to manage the service operations of the branch and function.
20% - RESOURCE MANAGEMENT – Supports direct and indirect reports by developing and managing budget, staff and other resources in order to provide the necessary resources to accomplish the goals of the Branch.
15% - OPERATIONS CONTROL – Sets goals for the branch, establishes timelines for completion, and monitors achievement by reviewing reports from staff and Finance in order to control operations and achieve desired outcomes for the branch.
10% - SUPERVISION OF STAFF – Gets information, makes sense of it, sets objectives, organizes resources and makes decisions, coach staff and provides feedback, manages conflict and appraises performance in order to optimize the expected performance of staff.
10% - PUBLIC RELATIONS – Represents the library district to community, business, government and social groups, agencies and associations through public speaking engagements, committee participation and membership affiliation, and in connection with public dissatisfaction.
5% - MATERIALS COLLECTION – Guides collection development by recommending additions and deletions from collection, monitoring the inventory of the branch collection, and weeding materials in order to create a collection that is reflective of the communities needs.
5% - PATRON ASSISTANCE – Resolves patron complaints; assists patrons in the use of library materials and technology by guiding them in searching the catalog and stacks, accessing databases, and navigating the Internet in order to locate resources in the collection and on the World Wide Web.
5% - BACK-UP – Performs the duties of direct and indirect reports in their absence to ensure the proper functioning of the organizational unit.
Minimum Requirements:
Masters Degree in Library Science
Three to Five years of similar experience
