BROAD SCOPE OF POSITION: It is the mission of the Pikes Peak Library District to seek, engage, and transform lives through library services and resources that enrich individual lives and build community. This position operates in a diverse environment to help fulfill the library’s mission by providing general information and assistance to the public and participating in a wide range of support activities for Adult Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides excellent customer service and maintains a courteous, positive image of the library when interacting with patrons and staff.
- Works on the public services desk providing reference services face to face, over the phone, and via email.
- Provides general assistance and information about the library’s services and procedures.
- Assists and instructs patrons through material and on-line searches, computer software applications, reference/in-depth research, community referrals, and outside sources/collections.
- Maintains confidentiality in all patron and staff interactions.
- Uses computers, printers, specialized software, fax and other business machines, as well as specialized equipment contained in the makerspaces.
- Assists patrons with questions about electronic devices.
- Helps patrons in the makerspaces with software and hardware (including 3D printers, CNC machine, laser cutter, sewing machines, etc.) and tools.
- Provides support for specialized projects, services, programs, and activities related to divisional goals and needs.
- Possesses a desire to learn new technologies.
- Has flexibility to change direction with new strategic goals.
- Troubleshoots basic computer and office equipment problems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in any field; or an Associate Library Technician degree.
- Minimum of one year of library experience or other public service work experience
- Computer proficiency using Microsoft software applications (specifically MS Word, Excel, Outlook); prefer candidates that can accurately type 45+ words per minute
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work in a team environment, a “whatever it takes” work ethic, and an excellent customer service attitude.
- Bilingual ability is a plus in serving our diverse patrons. Se habla Español?
