Position: Part-Time Library Clerk

Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine is currently looking for part-time library clerks to work in our new, state-of-the-art library. We are looking for individuals who are interested in librarianship as a career, enjoy being in libraries, or are looking for stimulating part-time work with a highly motivated and educated student and faculty population.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: To monitor public areas and circulation desk, answer basic reference questions, process new acquisitions, shelve returned books
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Monitor library entrance and public areas
- Check items in and out of the collection
- Process (copy cataloging and labeling) new acquisitions
- Shelve returned books
- Answer basic reference and policy questions asked by patrons
- Replenish copier paper and toner as needed and report photocopier problems
- Complete closing routine as specified on checklist
- Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or his/her designee
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with similar duties as assigned by the Department Chair or his/her designee
- Attend selected school functions of interest
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Basic word processing and data entry skills
- Ability to learn and use MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, and EOS Integrated Library System circulation and cataloging functions
- Ability to welcome patrons, answer basic questions, convey messages, and report problems
- Ability to recognize and resolve minor issues with photocopiers
- Ability to lift 25 lb. boxes, maneuver book carts, and shelve books
- Ability to read and interpret technical instructions related to computer use, phone use, and office and library software
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent plus library systems training.
- Six months of previous clerical experience or equivalent.
Part-time hours may vary between 10 – 20 hours per week and include daytime, evenings and weekends til midnight.
