The Spring Hill Public Library invites applications for the position of Assistant Director. The position is available due to the retirement of the incumbent.
OVERVIEW: The Assistant Director works with the Library Director in planning, administering and evaluating library resources, operations and services, including staff supervision, and, provides oversight of daily library functions including the management of library-sponsored programs. The position performs administrative tasks and creates, coordinates and manages select library projects. The Assistant Director may assume responsibility for library operations in the absence of the Director and shall, in a team approach, perform other duties as may be necessary. Some evening and Saturday hours should be anticipated in the work schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS: The skills and knowledge of the Assistant Director would generally be acquired with a Master's Degree in Library Science and three (3) years of public library experience. The position requires excellent verbal / written communication skills and the ability to manage full and part time employees. A strong knowledge of both subject matter materials and user needs typical to public library services are required. Knowledge of current library automation trends and experience in the implementation of developing technologies plus a proficiency with a variety of software programs and systems related to the operations of the library, including word processing, Internet, scheduling / calendaring / e-mail, web design, and Windows applications used in library services, is mandatory. A proficiency in applying good customer service skills and the ability to work with limited supervision, plus an aptitude for detailed work and proficiency in prioritizing tasks, is expected. Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
