The award winning Springville Public Library seeks a creative and visionary professional to lead a talented team in developing, maintaining, and promoting excellent library services and programs. The Library staff of 15 FTE uses BISAC classifications, “roving reference” type service model and browsable children’s book bins and face out merchandising for easy material selection.
The Library has a budget of $1,000,000, annual circulation of 619,000, offers over 600 programs with 41,700 participants each year. Monthly teen programming attracts an average of 200 teens. The Library is celebrating its fifth year in a 48,000 sq. ft. facility.
The Library Director reports to an assistant city administrator and works closely with the liaison City Council member assigned, the Library Board, and Friends Association.
Responsibilities
- Administers the overall library program in accordance with library policies within the
confines of local, state, and federal laws.
- Provides leadership in developing annual plans for services, facility, staffing and
technology and interprets and communicates goals and objectives to staff and the
- Actively engaged in representing and promoting the library in a variety of venues,
organizations and activities within the community; engages the library in cooperative
activities and partnerships with other libraries, agencies and organizations.
- Strengthens collaborative work and relationships with other city department directors,
Mayor, and City Council.
- Actively participates in conferences and training workshops to enrich knowledge, skills
and abilities in all areas of public librarianship and professional expertise.
- Oversees the preparation of, submits and defends budget for the library to the city
administrator and financial director and is responsible for executing the budget in a
fiscally responsible manner.
- Seeks and participates in expansion of alternative funding sources for library programs
and services through creative fundraising and development.
- Inspires, develops and supervises staff in the direction on the Springville Library’s
mission and goals. Supports competencies and patron oriented service standards.
- Ensures frequent and on-going information to the public regarding library programs and
services through consistent marketing, branding and public relations program.
- Manages collections and technology to connect the public with materials and services to
improve their lives.
- Maintains attractive, safe, comfortable and convenient facility for patrons and workplace
for staff.
- Exercise a high degree of judgment and discretion along with political and business
- MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited university and five years of progressive library
management experience that includes experience managing staff and programs.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to motivate and lead
- Experience developing and administering budgets
- Customer focus and excellent public relation skills and the ability to build trust and
effective partnerships.
- A sense of humor, intellectual curiosity, and an openness to new ideas.
- Highly effective communication and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices for library management and technology.
Springville is known as the Art City because of their “Best of State” art museum and annual cultural events. Springville lies in the foothills of the Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains and has access to outdoor activities close to downtown including hiking, golf, swimming, camping, and biking. Springville is located within an hour’s drive to seven premier ski resorts. The city is close to Salt Lake City, Brigham Young University, and various theater and music venues. Springville is a part of the greater Provo/Orem metro area with a population of almost 600,000.
