Job Description

Reports to: Dean of Curriculum & Instruction

Brief overview of Position: The Library Director is an experienced, forward thinking, academic professional with in-depth research, information literacy development, customer service, and academic program support skills.  He or she collaborates with the Dean of Curriculum & Instruction to ensure academic support resources are in place for undergraduate and graduate students and faculty. 

Promotes excellence in development and delivery of outcomes-based academic library and academic program support practices

  • Oversees Library functions to include reference/ research services, development and maintenance of physical and online collections
  • Serves as the university resource for development of information literacy initiatives (credit bearing curriculum as well as non-credit bearing workshops)
  • Coordinates Academic Program Support services to include tutoring, Writing Center, Math Lab, Supplemental Instruction, and Quiz Lab
  • Provides proven, research-based information literacy theory and support for research and reference services inside-, and outside-, of the classroom.
  • Maintains up to date trend awareness regarding innovative best practices for academic libraries and academic program support services
  • Assesses established learning and non-learning outcomes using evidence-based decision making for continued improvement

 Provides leadership for operational aspects of an academic library and program support center

  • Administers Library and Academic Program Support budget development and management processes
  • Oversees academic program support work study student, and para-professional staff (including graduate students), hiring and scheduling for library and academic program support services
  • Serves as administrator for online program support scheduling system (WC Online)
  • Participates in the continued evaluation, selection, testing and implementation of hardware and software tools, technologies and services that enhance the library and academic program support services

 Need to Have:

  • Minimum of master's degree in Library Studies or Library & Information Studies from a regionally accredited institution; will consider candidates with required work experience in last year of program
  • A passion for academic excellence and innovation in an academic setting
  • Knowledge of current industry trends and information literacy standards
  • Three to five years' experience in academic library setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including exceptional communication and collaboration with diverse constituencies, including students, faculty, employees and external parties.
  • Familiarity with American Library Association, Association of College & Research Libraries, academic library consortiums, and accreditation preferred
