The William P Faust Public Library of Westland (MI) Board of Trustees seeks a confident leader who prioritizes relationship-building and teamwork to re-connect the Library to its community creating a unified vision for the future. Serving 84,000 people with an annual $2.9 million operating budget and 42 staff, the Library provides excellent services to the citizens of Westland in a lovely 33,450 sq. ft. building located in a park-like setting. The community supports its Library—over seventy percent of voters supported a .99 mill operating levy in 2012. New opportunities include initiating a strategic planning process, potential expansion of the facility, and building relationships with city officials and community organizations.
Qualifications. Minimum qualifications include a Master’s in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program, the ability to obtain or already hold a Michigan Librarian’s Permanent Certificate. Additional qualifications include: at least 4 years of professional library experience in a public library, of which at least two years have been in a management or supervisory position; a thorough knowledge of public library service; proven experience in successful financial management and budgeting; an understanding of technology and its application in public libraries; strong management skills; excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with many diverse groups. A degree in business or public administration, prior successful experience reporting to a governing board and union experience are desirable.
Compensation. The position offers a hiring salary range of $70,000-$90,000 (dependent upon experience and qualifications) and an attractive benefits package.
