The Arapahoe Library District is looking for two Storytime Specialists to join our progressive library system. We are looking for someone with at least two years' experience conducting quality storytimes who has knowledge of early childhood learning, literacy and Every Child Ready to Read philosophies. Supervises: 0
Position: 2 positions- 30 hours each - Flexibility to work evenings and weekends required.
Pay: $15.63 - $19.50
Role: Assists patrons in the children's area of the library, delivers/performs storytimes and supports district's early literacy initiatives and programs.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
50% PATRON ASSISTANCE & MATERIAL PROCESSING
- Responsible for duties necessary to support early literacy efforts in the branch libraries:
- Greets patrons and provides proactive assistance
- Assists with delivery of district initiated early childhood programs and services
- Helps promote and maintain age-appropriate children's spaces
- Assists patrons with library account maintenance (check out, placing holds, fines)
- Helps patrons with general reference, tech assistance and advisory
- Provides handoff to various other specialists when appropriate
- Merchandises
- Promotes library services, programs and offerings
- Processes materials, shelves, handle holds
40% PROGRAM DELIVERY
- Prepare and deliver storytime in an engaging manner according to district's Storytime Competencies.
- Integrate an understanding of the new Every Child Ready to Read early literacy skills and practices, and demonstrates strong personal connections with children and caregivers.
- Develop and maintain meaningful, productive relationships with families.
10% STORYTIME PREPARATION AND TRAINING
- Collaborate and communicate for ongoing professional development; storytime rehearsal in order to be familiar with the material andattend storytime meetings.
Qualifications:
Two to five years experience in conducting quality storytimes, similar or related experience preferred.
Bachelor's degree, preferred.
Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, required.
Ability to work in multiple facilities and have a flexible work schedule. The bulk of time for this position will be spent in public library service areas throughout the district.
Intermediate reader's advisory experience or knowledge of board books, picture books to junior level, preferred.
Ability to conduct effective storytimes in front of varying groups and demographics.
Knowledge of early childhood learning, literacy and Every Child Ready to Read philosophies.
Experience with Family Place Library philosophy, preferred.
Knowledge of informational databases, preferred.
Intermediate technology skills for Windows, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook, required.
Intermediate skills in Sierra, preferred.
Ability to be mobile 100% of the time. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds, and ability to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted regularly and up to 50 pounds assisted occasionally required.
Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun.
Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.
