The Cleveland State Community College (CSCC) seeks a Reference and Instruction librarian who is collegial, customer-driven, with strong commitment to teaching and assessment efforts to join our talented and Library friendly team. The ideal candidate is capable of making strong connections with faculty and students remotely and in-person, is familiar with learning management systems, information literacy instruction, and is able to enhance library assessment efforts. The librarian will plan and deliver course-integrated library instruction in collaboration with faculty. Provide group and individualized research assistance via telephone, in person, and virtually. Create print and web-based learning objects. Working closely with all library staff to design effective orientation and user-driven workshops to enhance student retention, persistence, and graduation. Create appropriate assessment tools that are tied directly to course learning outcomes. The Librarian 1 also assists in developing and providing services to off-campus locations and in formulating policies and procedures related to the public services area. The librarian will work closely with the Center for Dynamic Instruction to incorporate appropriate technology tools into instructional activities to engage and enhance student-learning skills.
Based on her/his skill set and the needs of the library, the incumbent will be assigned additional library responsibilities, including coordinating and maintenance of the Library’s reference collection, collecting and reporting reference services use statistics at the Research Help Desk. The incumbent will also serve as library liaison to one or more selected academic departments to foster effective collaborative relationships with faculty and increase awareness of library resources and increased use. In collaboration with the Collection Development Librarian, consistently evaluate database subscriptions, and individual electronic journals to enable effective navigation, access, and change in content.

- Ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff and external constituencies.
- Experience with instructional technologies and e-learning authoring tools used to support and enhance effective teaching online and face-to-face environments.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a classroom environment.
- Broad knowledge of database content, access, and maintenance.
- Ability to effectively perform a variety of tasks simultaneously.
- Patience in dealing with students and public.
- Team-oriented approach to library operations.
- Familiarity with information technologies such as web-authoring tools, content
management systems, course delivery software, Web2.0 and other social software
- Solid organization skills to support the ability to function in a dynamic service environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
- Desire to continuously upgrade skills of best practices in academic librarianship for self- and others.
