About UNMC and Omaha

As Nebraska’s only public academic health sciences center, UNMC is committed to the education of a 21st century health care work force, to finding cures and treatments for devastating diseases, to providing the best care for patients, and to serving our state and its communities through award-winning outreach. UNMC also is committed to embracing the richness of diversity and is a major economic engine for the state of Nebraska.

Led by Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., UNMC has six colleges and two institutes, serving about 3,700 students in more than two dozen programs. Sparked by private giving, the UNMC campus has seen an extraordinary period of expansion and renewal. Several projects are either completed or in progress, such as the Interprofessional Experiential Center for Enduring Learning (iEXCEL). With advanced simulation clinical settings and virtual immersive reality technology, iEXCEL will help transform how health science education and clinical care is delivered. The new Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Nebraska, is shaping cancer care, research and education in Nebraska, the region and the world. Cutting-edge research fused with excellent patient care brings the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center one step closer to achieving Comprehensive Cancer Center designation, an honor shared by only 45 centers in the U.S.

Each of our five UNMC campus sites is its own community, connected to a greater community. Located in a handful of Nebraska’s landmark hometowns, UNMC’s divisions across the state are bonded through a shared culture – and in real time, by distance-learning technology.
