Discover the magic and become the next Library Director for Barberton Public Library! The Board of Trustees of the Barberton Public Library seeks a responsive, engaged consensus-builder to lead the Library to success. The Director will provide quality leadership, direct and support staff, and bring experience and vision to the Library. Located in Northeast Ohio/Summit County, the Library serves the 26,385 residents of the Barberton City Schools district. Governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees, the Library provides excellent services and programs with 21FTE staff and a $1.6 million annual budget. Successful passage of a 1.97 mill levy renewal in 2015 provides 36% of the Library’s operating expenses. The Library’s main location is located across the street from Lake Anna Park, a 21-acre park and the Community Health branch is located inside the Summa Health System Barberton Campus Hospital.
Responsibilities. Under the direction of the Board of Trustees, the Director recruits, selects, evaluates, supports, manages, and disciplines staff, builds strong community relationships through public speaking, serves on community boards, committees, and civic organizations, informs and advises the Board of Trustees on all operational issues, collaborates with the Fiscal Officer and management team to coordinate the daily management of the library, serves as liaison to, and secretary for, Board committees, develops annual budget in consultation with the Fiscal Officer and ensure compliance with Board authorization, authorizes expenditures for library materials, supplies, equipment, and contracts, and accurately maintain Board-directed and State Library reports and statistics in a timely fashion. Qualifications. Minimum qualifications include: A Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program or equivalent and a minimum of five years professional experience at progressively responsible levels. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the ability to directly supervise staff, is capable of communicating effectively in written and oral form, has reliable means of transportation, and the ability to be bonded. Preferred qualifications include levy/bond/referendum experience and experience in grant writing.
Compensation. The starting salary range is $60,000-75,000 (with placement dependent upon experience and qualifications) with an attractive benefits package.
