Job Description
The Library Assistant is responsible for maintaining library circulation activities such as locating and checking out/in materials. In addition to circulation activities, the Library Assistant processes and accounts for all new periodicals and auction catalogs, physically processes new and donated materials and helps to maintain shelf order and appearance. Also, the Library Assistant greets and assists library patrons and visitors. Job Duties/Description: • Checking out/in materials. • Locating requested materials. • Preparing books for mailing. • Performing clerical tasks such as photocopying, faxing and scanning materials. • Inventorying periodicals and auction catalogs. • Processing new materials (creating spine labels, barcoding, etc.). • Shelving materials and reading shelves (maintaining book order and appearance). • Creating records for new library patrons and updating patron information. • Assisting walk-in patrons. • Other duties as necessary.
Additional Info & Requirements
• Some college experience; an associate degree or higher preferred. • Clerical experience. • Strong organizational and troubleshooting skills. • Ability to work independently with limited supervision. • Ability to adapt to new activities and situations quickly. • Ability to perform repetitive tasks and maintain a high level of concentration and accuracy. • Able to bend and stretch, lift up to 10 pounds at one time and push a loaded book truck.
