Job Description
Note: This position is a part-time, 50% position and typically works a schedule of 20 hours per week. Nature of Work: Nature of Work: This position is specifically responsible for the copy cataloging and database maintenance of Japanese materials in all formats. It also assists in hiring, training, and supervising student assistants with East Asian language skills and in arranging their work flow. The position exists to cooperate in and contribute to meeting the Cataloging and Metadata Services Department's goals by responding flexibly and imaginatively to evolving demands placed on the Department. The position exists to accurately catalog Libraries' materials and to maintain, correct, and enhance the Libraries' online database, Chinook, for the purpose of supplying detailed and up-to-date records of our holdings to our patrons and those of other libraries and to Internet users who access Chinook.
Additional Info & Requirements
Minimum Requirements: Two years full time (or equivalent) of general library experience involving circulation, shelving, and interlibrary loan which must have included administrative experience with an online library system AND native proficiency in Japanese. Necessary Special Requirement: Native proficiency in the Japanese Language is required. The University of Colorado at Boulder is committed to providing a safe and productive learning and living community. Highly Desirable: The ideal candidate will have Chinese language skills, knowledge of Innovative Interfaces Millennium and OCLC Connexion software as well as experience working with authority records and experience in supervising the work of cataloging staff. Substitution: Two years of course work from an accredited college or university including twelve semester hours of library science course work may substitute for two years of the general library experience, but not for the specific administrative experience with an online library system nor the native proficiency in the Japanese language. **Please Note: If education is used to meet the minimum requirements, you must submit a transcript copy by the closing date.** Exam Schedule: Applicants will be notified of the time, date, place, and type of examination required.
