Job Description
Position Description: This 12 month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor is responsible for ensuring that print, audiovisual, and digital resources are properly inventoried, organized, and cataloged; works with the University’s IT Department to coordinate the Library’s integrated library system (ILS) and institutional repository; and serves on the Library’s Information Management Team. The Catalog Librarian provides reference services (including some nights and weekends), acts as liaison to various academic departments, teaches library instruction classes, and serves on university boards and committees.
Responsibilities: The Catalog Librarian will perform the following duties.
Administration
• Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate classified and/or contract staff in technical services department
• Develop and communicate departmental goals and objectives to staff
• Create and maintain job descriptions, policies, and procedures for department
• Provide backup for staff when needed
• Set goals and create plans for department
Cataloging/Metadata
• Perform original cataloging and/or create metadata for unique materials such as theses, archival materials or digital collections using MARC, DC, or other appropriate metadata schema
• Supervise copy cataloging and holdings record creation for all print, digital, archival and multimedia content according to nationally accepted standards
• Provide authority control and database maintenance of the online catalog and institutional repository
• Collaborate with CSU - Fort Collins to implement and maintain shared institutional repository
• Provide leadership in the development of new processes and tools for the organization and description of library content as needed
• Maintain statistics describing the collections and their usage
• Assist with inventorying of collection at regular intervals
Coordinate integrated library system (ILS)
• Maintain staff accounts and oversee other administrative parameters for ILS (currently Dynix Horizon)
• Collaborate with other library departments to improve usability of ILS
• Collaborate with University IT Department and ILS vendor to customize ILS as necessary
• Coordinate ILS upgrades with vendor, ITS, and appropriate library departments
• Provide ILS training for all library staff as needed
• Provide reports for library administrative needs
• Coordinate import and export of library patron data with campus administrative systems
• Troubleshoot and solve problems with systems as necessary
• Provide support for and coordinate training for Pueblo City Schools in the use and implementation of the shared integrated library system
Reference and instruction, including some nights and weekends.
• Provide one-on-one assistance at reference desk.
• Provide virtual reference services as scheduled.
• Perform specialized database searching as needed.
• Teach courses for library instruction program including, but not limited to, classes in the liaison area.
Serve as liaison to one or more academic departments, helping to coordinate collection management and instruction for the assigned subject areas.
Perform sustained inquiry into discipline leading to practical application within the library as well as research resulting in published or presented scholarly or creative output.
Serve the Library, the University, and the profession through active membership on boards, committees, panels, etc.
