Job Description
The On-Call Library Assistant will be responsible for duties related to Circulation. The duties require competence in various computer systems, including Innovative Interfaces and Prospector. This position will provide quality customer service via a service desk, telephone and email to a multi-age, multicultural clientele located world-wide and assist with the supervision of 30 student workers. The Library Assistant will open and close the library, prepare computers, Santo Collection and cash drawer accordingly; assign work; supervise student workers in operation of circulation; screen and answer or refer inquiries, both in person and over the telephone, as appropriate; assist patrons with reference questions when reference librarian is busy or is not on duty. This person will provide oversight of the library during duty hours in the absence of the Dean, the Access Services Manager, Information Services Librarian, and Reference Librarian. The Library Assistant will also monitor alarm systems for library collections and building security and communicates with appropriate security personnel when necessary.
Additional Info & Requirements
The Dayton Memorial Library is open seven days a week hours range from 7:00am to 12:00am (midnight) depending on the day of the week. Previous experience working with the public and a high school diploma is required. The successful candidates will have evidence of excellent communication skills, both oral and written; the ability to maintain poise while effectively managing a multi-task operation; demonstrated ability to supervise student workers; demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse clientele; and demonstrated computer skills. Prior experience with a circulation module of an automated library system preferred.
