Explore—Gather—Grow as the next Director of the Upper Arlington (OH) Public Library. The seven-member, governing Board of Trustees seeks a dynamic and engaging Director who will create a new strategic vision and continue to build on the stellar reputation of the Library. Upper Arlington Library’s three locations serves its 34,150 residents with a staff of 72.53FTE staff supported by a $6 million annual operating budget. Community support includes an operating levy providing 54% of the Library’s budget (expiring in 2022) and an active Friends of the Library group which supports library programming and technology.
Responsibilities. Essential functions include: overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of library programs and services; envisioning and interpreting community needs, developing new programs and services for all segments of the community; overseeing the provision of a quality collection which meets the needs of the public; effectively communicating the library’s services, resources, and programs to the community; recommending policies and advising the Board on operational, fiscal, staffing, and facilities matters; analyzing staffing requirements and selecting candidates to fill professional positions. Qualifications. A Bachelor’s degree and progressively responsible professional library experience including a minimum of three years of senior or high-level management and administrative experience is required. A Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited library program is highly preferred. Essential skills include a diverse library background, such as experience in public service, personnel management, automated and electronic resources and membership/participation in professional organizations. Experience in successfully engaging with a governing board, leading or supporting a fund raising campaign and/or promoting a local tax levy preferred.
