The McGoogan Library of Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha, NE seeks an innovative and collaborative Education and Research Services (E&RS) librarian to join a team of faculty librarians.
Reporting to the head of education and research, the Education & Research Services Librarian provides research and education services to faculty, staff, and professional/graduate students at University of Nebraska Medical Center, Nebraska Medicine, and Children’s Hospital and Medical Center and provides instruction and literature search services in support of patient care, clinical quality improvement, and research projects. Early career librarians and individuals from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
The Education & Research Services Librarian works collaboratively with a team of librarians to provide instruction, reference and research services and serves as a liaison to colleges or departments.
Responsibilities
1. Works collaboratively with faculty from within and outside the library to plan and
deliver instruction in classroom and online learning environments.
2. Creates online tutorials focused on library resources and information literacy skills.
3. Collaborates on the application of relevant adult learning, education, assessment, and
educational technology standards and best practices.
4. Provides reference services to faculty, staff, students, and the public on the effective
use of library services and resources.
5. Provides expert literature search services in support of patient care, clinical quality
improvement projects, research projects, and systematic review creation.
6. Develops and maintains research guides for specific disciplines and subjects.
7. Serves as a liaison to academic colleges or departments.
8. Participates in professional activities and professional development.
9. Manages or assists with special projects.
Required Qualifications
• MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution.
• Ability to acquire new technological skills and resolve problems in a resourceful and timely manner.
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills; evidence of strong written and oral communication skills.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan, and organize projects.
• Commitment to working with diverse groups.
Supplemental Qualifications
• Academic health sciences library experience.
• Experience providing information literacy instruction.
• Experience conducting literature searches.
• Knowledge of instructional design principles.
• Experience conducting outreach on behalf of the library.
An MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution is required. Finalists will make a formal presentation to library staff on a topic to be provided. This is not a tenure-leading faculty position. However, all librarians have faculty status and may elect to pursue tenure.
