Salary: $18/hr for 17hrs per week
General Description:
Provides direct services to children and adults at the Pontiac Free Library. The librarian develops, promotes, and implements a variety of programs and activities to engage children, teens, and adults.
Other responsibilities include conducting outreach to adult, daycare facilities, and schools in the neighborhood; suggests new materials to be added collections; assisting patrons of all ages with use of the library, technology, and computer use. The Youth/Adult Services Librarian also assists with daily operations of the library and may oversee daily routines such as circulation, patron registration, shelving, and other duties as needed. Works under the direction of the Library Director and may act as a supervisor in the Director’s absence.
Hours are, but are not limited to, 1-4pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays; 1-5pm Fridays; and 4-7pm on Wednesdays.
Requirements:
Master’s Degree in Library Science required. Library experience and a minimum of one year working in a library setting required, with one year working with children preferred. Consideration will be given to candidates working towards an MLS degree at an accredited school. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work with the public, familiarity with various technologies and computer programs such as Google Drive, Microsoft Word, and the Internet.
