Job Description

The RIHS is seeking a customer service-oriented, positive and energetic person to work in the Mary Elizabeth Robinson Research Center (RRC). Reporting to the Research Services Manager, the Public Services Assistant is the first point of contact at the RRC—the place where the public may access our research collections—and provides support for the smooth operation of the reading room.

Duties include greeting and registering patrons (explaining policies and procedures), monitoring the lobby and reading room, giving patrons general assistance, answering and routing phone calls, re-shelving reference material (books, files, microfilm), and supporting the research staff. Primary administrative duties include maintaining registration records, recording and keeping statistics, collecting and distributing incoming mail, and performing other duties as assigned.

Schedule:

Part-time: 18 hours/week, Wednesday through Friday, 10am – 5pm.

Compensation:

$15.00/hour

Qualifications:

BA/BS degree (preferred); Excellent oral communication skills, familiarity with basic office suite software (word processing, spreadsheets), good organizational skills, ability to work independently and as a team.
