Job Description
The Library Computer Specialist performs professional work related to Library operations and services involving automation and computers. Works with the City’s information technology (I.T.) staff, outside vendors, and Library staff to maintain the following systems: SirsiDynix “Horizon” Library Management System for Cataloging & Circulation; EnvisionWare System for public Internet access management; TutorVista and other remote systems/special databases for use by the staff and public; 3M Security System for theft prevention/inventory control; and the Library internet and intranet web page. Organizes activities relating to the Library’s computer systems to include planning for system upgrades and new system implementations related to Library automation and computer-related needs. Evaluates, troubleshoots, and resolves issues/problems related to Library automation and computer-related needs for both staff and the public. Works closely and coordinates with Library staff, other city departments, and system vendors to provide first-tier hands on support for both staff and the public. Assists I.T. Department staff in the installation and/or removal of Library hardware and software.

Requires strong computer skills to include advanced knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, the internet, web technologies, and integrated library systems (Dynix/Horizon preferred). Requires a basic knowledge of computer networking principles and database and client-server architecture. Must possess a working knowledge of standard library practices and services. Strong customer service skills and strong oral and written skills needed to interact with computer users and vendors. Requires strong analytical skills to research and troubleshoot computer-related problems and problem solve on the spot. An equivalent combination of education, training, or relevant work experience may be substituted.
