The Director of Content Management will provide policy, program development, and leadership as the Library redefines support for research in the context of emerging trends in scholarly communication, changing formats and access models, and new definitions of collections. The Director will work in a highly collaborative organization to create and implement effective and efficient procedures in acquiring, cataloging, and processing resources in all formats, be committed to innovation in enhancing existing services, and be willing to review long-term embedded practices to ensure responsible and timely expenditure of a total university-wide collections budget.
The Sul Ross Library is an exciting and evolving place to work with the recent additions of the Tutoring and Learning Center and the Cultural Center on the first floor, a brand new classroom and computer lab on the second floor, and furniture refreshes throughout the building. Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversight of all aspects of collection development and acquisitions, including negotiating, licensing, ordering, claiming, receiving, and e-resource management
- Oversight of all metadata and cataloging functions; perform original and complex copy cataloging of materials
- Serve as the primary contact for all vendor and publisher relations
- Negotiate licensing terms and maintains the highest ethical standards in our business transactions.
- Hire, train, support, and supervise direct reports
- Maintain current OCLC holdings for the Library
- Serve on Library and University committees; seek professional development opportunities
- Generate monthly statistical and financial reports
- Participate in reference desk coverage, including nights and weekends
- Perform other reasonable duties as required
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Experience
- Required: Experience showing progressive administrative and managerial responsibilities in an academic environment; working knowledge of collection development, acquisitions, serials, and cataloging; knowledge of practices and current trends in technical librarianship; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently and in teams; ability to foster positive working relationships with vendors, publishers, colleagues, and faculty; ability to organize, prioritize, meet deadlines, perform multiple tasks simultaneously
- Preferred: Five years of professional Library experience with at least two year supervisory experience in a Technical Service department, knowledge of consortial agreements; experience with negotiating with vendors; knowledge and understanding of Open Access and Scholarly Communication issues; experience with SIRSI products and OCLC
Supervision
- Received: Reports to the Dean of Library and Research Technologies.
- Given: Directly supervises other Technical Services staff, including Librarian and paraprofessionals, indirectly supervises student assistant positions.
Education
- Required: Master’s degree from an ALA accredited Library or information science program
- Preferred: Additional training in cataloging and Library technologies
