Job Description

Interviews, trains, supervises, schedules, and evaluates Children’s staff at Central Library (2 paraprofessionals) and assists in selection and training of children’s staff at other branches  Provides reference and reader’s advisory services to the community  Implements and interprets library procedures for customers and staff  Assists with development of unit budget, oversees and monitors adherence to expenditure levels  Collaborates with Collection Development Coordinator to develop and maintain a quality collection of materials for youth, in a variety of formats  Coordinates system wide Summer Reading Program, including ordering promotional materials and reporting statistics  Cultivates community relationships and partnerships to foster joint programming and services  Maintains current awareness of professional trends, methods and ethics  Attends and participates in professional activities, conferences, committees and meetings as appropriate including Administrative Leadership Team  Any and all other duties assigned 

Additional Info & Requirements

Successful management and supervisory experience of at least 4 years, with evidence of progressive responsibility  Knowledge of current trends and best practices in library services to children, teens, youth and adolescent development, children’s and young adult literature  Relevant experience with developing/evaluating programs and services for youth of at least 2 years  Successful experience presenting programs, workshops, and classes for youth and their parents/caregivers  Exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills, with experience leading by influence  Good organizational skills  Excellent communication skills, both oral and written  Working knowledge of technology for libraries, fluency with MS Office Suite and integrated library system (SirsiDynix Symphony preferred)  Experience in accomplishing objectives within team setting  Must pass background investigation  Valid Texas Driver’s license, or obtained in 30 days after starting, and good driving record
