Job Description
Starting in the summer of 2008 and continuing until June of 2009, the consultant, in collaboration with the DSST Information Literacy and Resources Committee, will further develop the pilot project, implement and manage its execution, and create/conduct an evaluation of its efficacy. The consultant’s role in this project will include: • Developing collaborative relationships between DSST and several existing community information organizations (e.g. public and academic libraries). • Serving as a liaison between the collaborating agencies and the DSST community. • Assisting two DSST faculty members in developing two different student research projects using the resources of collaborating agencies. • Coaching participating faculty members to become familiar with and competent in the use of collaborating agencies’ relevant resources. • Working with students engaged in the pilot project (as requested by DSST staff). • Developing and implementing an evaluation plan to determine the efficacy of this collaborative project.

Networking – the consultant will help DSST both develop and build on existing relationships with community agencies to create partnerships for this project Library Media experience – the consultant will be well versed in the technological and critical non-technological resources needed for 21st century information literacy, including the proficient use of physical and digital libraries, public and proprietary databases, search engines, etc. The consultant will also be knowledgeable about such issues as copyright protection, plagiarism, access/usage rights, and more. Teacher Training experience – the consultant will effectively and efficiently communicate concepts and skills to a 21st century workforce using human and technological resources. Teaching experience – the consultant will be a quality teacher. He/she will understand the needs of 21st century teachers and students, be familiar with the curriculum structures of organized and effective instructional planning, and have experience creating information literacy projects and skill-building lessons for HS students.
