A new way of thinking. The Board of Trustees is seeking a dynamic leader to continue to transform the library's facilities and culture and to champion the evolving and increasingly important role of the library in our community.
Who we are. The North Kingstown Free Library, located in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, was established in 1899. It serves the town in conjunction with two affiliated independent libraries. We now occupy a 30,000 square foot facility overlooking a part of Wickford Cove. Our well-regarded staff consists of 21 employees. The town population is 26,675, we have 12,117 registered borrowers, the annual library budget is 1.6 million, and the collection contains 250,000 items. Our library has a long history of providing high quality traditional and innovative library services. Our South County Room is an historical resource for the town, including books, art, and artifacts in its collection.
Our ideal candidate. We are looking for a hardworking person with excellent written and oral communication skills. S/he should be able to manage all issues regarding staff performance. S/he should be adept in the field of technology and adopt current practices as they relate to the goals of our library. Candidates should have sufficient budgeting skills and experience to create, present and defend the annual budget, while prudently allocating resources and setting financial priorities. Common sense and a sense of humor should be an integral part of daily communication. The director will act as the face of the library in the community. The director reports to the seven members of the Board of Trustees but also is part of the town’s management team, working closely with the Town Council, the town manager and other department heads.
Minimum requirements. We require an ALA-accredited MLS and a minimum of six years professional public library experience, with at least three in administration. Salary: $70,000 - $85,000 depending on qualifications.
