Job Description
Role: Provides information services to the inmates and staff of the Arapahoe County Detention facility. Major Duties and Responsibilities: 45% ASSIST PATRONS WITH LIBRARY COLLECTION AND SERVICES - Responds to patron requests by providing instruction on how to search for legal information, making recreational reading recommendations, how to check out materials and pay for copies in order to provide customer service; additionally, loads book carts, prepares circulation lists, and verifies inmate locations in order to provide service on location throughout the facility. 15% ASSIST PATRONS WITH TECHNOLOGY - Instructs patrons in the operation of computers, copiers and printers by demonstrating and assisting in their use in order to promote patron use of library technology. 20% COLLECTION SUPPORT - Makes recommendations as to the condition and suitability of materials, researching and recommending materials to satisfy patrons wants and needs, preparing purchase orders and reviewing order confirmations in order to assist the supervisor in maintaining an attractive, current and useful collection; processes new books by entering basic information into the database, printing labels and affixing labels to materials in order to catalog the collection. 15% SUPERVISOR ASSISTANCE - Assists the supervisor by mentoring new staff, scheduling of staff, suggesting program ideas, facilitating library programs and promoting programs in order to assist them in increasing attendance and participation. 5% CIRCULATION PROBLEM RESOLUTION - Resolves circulation problems by tracking circulation records and requesting detention center staff for assistance in order to assist patrons in returning materials to the library.

Experience: Two years to five years of similar or related experience. Education: Equivalent to a college degree. Skills: Values including compassionate, inclusive, alert and responsive, dependable, and accessible. Customer relations, including trust, tact, empathy, conscientiousness, conformity, focus, courtesy, flexibility, vocabulary, and math. Emotional intelligence, including self-regard, emotional self-awareness, assertiveness, independence, self actualization, empathy, social responsibility, interpersonal relationship, stress tolerance, impulse control, reality testing, flexibility, problem solving, optimism, and happiness. Technology skills, including Windows, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook and Millennium. Able to stand and walk up to 75% of the shift, bend and stretch without limitation, kneel, and, reach with hands and arms. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, unassisted, regularly, and up to 50 pounds, assisted, occasionally. Ability to push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds.
