
The Montana State University Library is seeking an energetic, friendly, and tech savvy individual to become the newest member of the Learning and Research Services team (otherwise known as LRS), the vibrant user-centered public face of the MSU Library.
The person in the Technology & Research Support Specialist position at the MSU Library will:
· Troubleshoot computer, software, hardware and technology-related issues.
· Instruct users on the use of software, hardware, and library equipment.
· Provide basic research assistance to library users, answer general inquires and make appropriate referrals in-person and remotely.
· Assist in the creation & maintenance of metrics & statistics for tracking usage of various library technologies, classroom & other services.
· Work at the main service desk, check library material in and out, renew materials, collect fines, and register patrons.
· Supervise LRS student employees during appointed LRS service point shifts.
· Participate in semester evaluations and performance reviews of LRS student employees.
· Answer telephone and in-person patron queries, explain policies and procedures, and make appropriate referrals.
· Train alongside other classified staff in the LRS department in the basics of their functional specialties, and with departmental librarians for future provision of library tours, orientations, and workshops.
· Serve on library committees and working groups.
· Other duties as assigned to assist in general library operations and fulfillment of LRS mission, goals, and objectives.
The anticipated regular hours of this position are Monday-Friday, 9 am-6 pm, with an opportunity to discuss slight adjustments to regular working hours, dependent on the needs and demands of the LRS department. The successful candidate must have the ability to flex their schedule to meet occasional vacation and sick leave demands of the department as well as seasonal changes to library building hours. While the working hours for this position will be set, the schedule for classified staff in LRS department changes during all intersessions and the summer due to shortened library hours.
