Job Title: Family Engagement Librarian
Reports To: Head of Children’s Services
Job Overview
• The Family Engagement Librarian will possess a working knowledge of emerging library trends relative to programs and services, digital resources and media literacy in a thriving, community-centered public library. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to customer service and teamwork; a desire to continually improve the patron learning experience; an appreciation of children’s literature and emerging trends; and an innate ability to comfortably interact with all ages and abilities. A combination of day, evening and weekend hours are required for this full-time, 35-hour/week position.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Assist with all of the daily operations of a busy Children’s Department.
• Grow and promote the children’s digital materials collection and Instagram Page.
• Assist with library programming, collection development and website upkeep as needed.
• Become proficient in a variety of makerspace tools.
• Educate patrons and staff on the use of the makerspace.
Qualifications
• An ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science is required for this position. Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited MLIS program will also be considered.
• A minimum of two years of experience in a public library is required.
• Exemplary written, communication, interpersonal and presentation skills. Be comfortable appearing on-camera to produce live or recorded video content.
• Knowledge of online collaboration tools (Teams, OneDrive, Zoom) especially as they relate to virtual programming.
• Demonstrated competency in computer use including internet, email, Microsoft Office Products. Must be able to learn and become proficient with equipment and software programs as required to effectively and efficiently perform assigned duties.
• Ability to actively engage with patrons inside and outside of the library including but not limited to kneeling, squatting and moving library materials on a regular basis.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is: $39,000 – $44,000 depending upon experience. Includes professional development opportunities through in-person and virtual workshops, conferences and memberships to professional organizations.
