Job Description
This position provides technical control for serials within the daily activities of an academic Technical Services Department, in particular, the receipt of Government Publications, and serves as liaison to ILS vendor. Duties: Primary duties include processing all aspects of print and electronic serials control comprised of: copy cataloging, check-in, holdings, link maintenance, access issues, title changes, cessations and claims. Oversees the retention, binding, withdrawals, and standing orders. Responsible for check-in of Government Publications in all formats and preparation for catalog linking. Works with ILS vendor to troubleshoot and maintain the local ILS system, assist with technical training of new staff, and oversee MSC portion of product upgrades. Maintains familiarity with MARC records and copy catalogs monographs and media, as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Two years of general library experience including typing, ordering, preparing, shelving, and maintaining library materials. This experience must be specifically documented on your application. In addition to the minimum qualifications, it will also be to your benefit to address your experience with the duties of the position and the preferred qualifications listed in this announcement. Substitutions: Two years of coursework from an accredited college or university including twelve semester hours of library science coursework may substitute for the two years of general library experience. A transcript documenting this coursework must be submitted if qualifying based on education. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC) records highly desired. Experience in copy cataloging, serials control, experience managing any Integrated Library System (ILS) (particularly Innovative Interfaces, Inc. (III) and/or Millennium), and experience checking in government publications preferred. Experience supervising young adults a plus. Conditions of Employment: Successful completion of criminal background check in accordance with Mesa State policy. Required Competencies: Good computer skills including the ability to communicate with IT professionals (preference given to experience with Word, Excel, and Access). Ability to be flexible in the work environment and to follow established campus and library policies.
